The game is possible to play with a controller but from my experience it is very difficult to control the car properly and is almost impossible to control the car if the back gets too loose. It's a much better game with a wheel, and whilst playable with a controller don't expect to be challenging people with wheels online or beating their times.

Edit: To be clear a FFB wheel would still be a better choice, so this post is more towards controller users who can't upgrade for some reason. In that case, I think setting up the DS4 for gyro steering is much better than getting the thumb stick steering to feel good. Ill keep this post short, but no one seems to be taking about gyro-controlled steering in ACC and AC.
